Rehau celebrates its 75th anniversary under the slogan 'Engineering progress. Enhancing lives', which sums up the mission behind all its activities: to improve the quality of life through the use of innovative and sustainable technologies.
With 190 locations worldwide, more than 20,000 employees and an annual turnover of more than EUR 4.5 billion, the Rehau Group is today an international family of companies comprising five subgroups: Meraxis, Rehau New Ventures, Raumedic, Rehau Automotive and Rehau Industries.
A success story
Rehau's success story began in 1948 with founder Helmut Wagner, who started replacing traditional materials with polymers in a leather factory in Rehau, Germany, with a few employees and an extruder, relying on the values of trust, reliability and innovation to build a large company.
In 2000, his sons Jobst and Veit Wagner took over the management of the company as President and Vice President respectively and consistently developed it in the direction of today's subgroups. In 2021, Jobst Wagner handed over the chairmanship to Veit Wagner and became Vice President. With Nils Wagner, who heads Rehau New Ventures, the third generation of the family is represented in a management position within the Group. In 2021, Helmut Wagner, a determined and visionary entrepreneur, passed away at the age of 95.
Investments for sustainable growth
Rehau's know-how and technical expertise lie behind numerous projects on a global scale: from the Ariane rocket for aerospace research to the Cairo Metro and the heating of the grass surfaces of the Berlin Olympic Stadium.
75 years of values, innovations and adaptability have transformed a family business into today's group of companies, committed to continuous investment for sustainable growth in markets with high potential. These include Africa, where Rehau recently acquired a local company, and Mexico, where a production plant is soon to be opened to meet the growing demand for products for the furniture industry in North and Central America.
Experience and the courage to take risks
A strong spirit of initiative, a solid foundation of values and a great ability to think outside the box: these are the Group's winning elements, which are expressed in the balance between experience and the courage to take risks, with a view to continuous evolution.
Indeed, Veit Wagner, President of the Rehau Group, explains: 'Change represents fertile ground for new ideas and innovations that make us competitive in the long term.
Rehau extruded the first polymer window profile in 1958 and, in 1987, introduced the self-locking sleeve technique for connecting pipes, selling one billion units since then. Today, one out of every three cars in Europe is made with components from Rehau, the polymer specialist, and 400,000 kilometres of Rehau cable microducts connect people all over the world. The company files around one hundred patents per year.
A sustainable growth perspective
Today, Rehau is looking to the future in an increasingly sustainable way, the principle of sustainability being firmly anchored in strategic decision-making. As early as the 1950s, the company introduced the reuse of polymer waste in its production processes and, in the late 1980s, also started developing projects for its disposal. Today, circular economy, future-oriented energy supply and the promotion of diversity are the core themes pursued by Rehau with a view to sustainable growth. Thus, for example, the company aims to increase the amount of recycled material in production to 20 per cent by 2025, while already today, more than half of Rehau window profiles contain up to 75 per cent recycled granulate. Furthermore, by 2035, the company is aiming for carbon-neutral production worldwide, a goal already achieved at some locations.
After 75 years, Rehau looks to the past, full of innovative products and systems capable of improving the quality of life, but above all to the future, continuing its commitment to ensuring a sustainable and innovative world for future generations.
