Interzum 2019, which took place from 21 to 24 May, is once again confirmed as the world's leading trade fair for the entire sector of subcontracting for the furniture industry and interior design.
In fact, 74,000 visitors arrived in Cologne, 75 per cent of them from across the border, thus setting a record not only for quantity, but also for internationality.
1,805 exhibitors from 60 countries on 190,000 square meters of exhibition space compared to 1,732 from 59 countries for the 2017 edition and 28 percent more than the 2015 edition.
Absolute record for Italian participation
The presence of Italian exhibitors was excellent: 330 exhibitors occupied 22,176 square metres, almost the same area as the 356 German companies that occupied 26,378 square metres.
Thomas Rosolia, managing director of Koelnmesse Italy, said he was extremely satisfied and said: “We are talking about the absolute record for Italian participation. A result that did not surprise us, because it comes from the continuous and intense relationship of authentic partnership that we have with Italian companies for all our fairs. Undoubtedly Interzum is one of our flagships and to receive such a consensus is certainly a reason for pride, especially if we think that we have reserved about two thousand square meters more than in 2017, twice as much as we had done in 2007, just twelve years ago ...“.
Satisfied also for the result of the four collective exhibitions, organized by Koelnmesse Italia in the segments “Function & Components“, in pavilions 5.1 and 8, and “Materials & Nature“, in pavilions 6 and 10.2, which have grown significantly in recent years and are always very appreciated by those who participate.
In the ranking of exhibiting countries in third place, well separated from Italy, there is Turkey with 8,263 square meters of exhibition space occupied by 164 companies.
In terms of visitors, there was a strong growth (more than 22 per cent) in arrivals from Asia and China in particular, from where 48 per cent more visitors came to Cologne than in the previous edition. Visitors also increased from Central and South America (+24%), Eastern Europe (+21%) and North America (+7%).
Interzum privileged stage for innovations
Also for this reason the event attracts an increasing number of architects, interior designers, designers who know they can find not only solutions, but also stimuli, ideas, provocations.
In fact, many stimuli have been found in the numerous thematic areas that will once again be present at interzum this year: from current topics such as digitization and sustainability to the now well-known “Piazzas“, true and proper thematic hubs that allow specific themes such as “Mobile Spaces“ to be explored in greater depth (pavilion 10.1), “Surfaces & Wood Design“ (pavilion 6), “Disruptive Materials“ (pavilion 4.2), “Digitalisation“ (pavilion 3.2), “Digital Printing“ (again in pavilion 3.2) and “Tiny Spaces“, in the spaces of the Boulevard Nord.
Interzum is once again an essential appointment for the international market, an event that is growing and that could grow even more if there were more space available, especially for certain pavilions. Koelnmesse's top management are addressing these requests with the desire to propose new solutions, perhaps already at the next edition of interzum to be held from 4 to 7 May 2021.
