- Companies: strategies and future
Index
Solid and innovative reality Scapin Group, with its brands Marmo Arredo, Quartzforms and Eulithe, is an Italian company dedicated for more than forty years to the processing of marble, granite, composite materials and agglomerates for use in construction and furniture. At the origin of its activity was precisely the intuition to propose the use of stone artifacts for the world of the home. The ability then to systematically innovate production processes, placing newly developed products on the market, has enabled the company to establish itself as a key player in the industrial production of kitchen countertops, the processing of custom one-off pieces and the creation of custom surfaces for interior design.
Marco Scapin, Art Director Scapin Group, addresses, in this interview, issues central to the company: innovation, customization, product and process sustainability.

First and foremost, let's talk about innovation: at the last Sicam, it was the key word that emerged in all divisions, which makes one understand the great research work by companies in the subcontracting sector to develop new products and study new processes.
At Scapin Group, innovation is the beating heart of our business and drives every aspect of our work. We firmly believe that progress should not only be limited to the creation of new products, but should also include the optimization of production processes to ensure greater efficiency, precision and sustainability. With an ongoing focus on research and development, we strive to discover ever more advanced solutions that meet the needs of an ever-changing market.
For us, innovation means not only the introduction of new technologies, but also the constant improvement of our production methods. We are investing in solutions that allow us to reduce our environmental impact, making our processes increasingly sustainable without compromising quality. Every step toward innovation, particularly in the area of surfaces, is designed to create value, both aesthetically and functionally, while ensuring respect for the environment.
Sicam was an important showcase for Scapin Group, as it allowed us to present our unique operating model, which integrates the precision of industrial innovation with tradition and craftsmanship. This approach allows us to offer sophisticated, advanced and increasingly sustainable processing that meets the needs of an industry in constant transformation. Occasions like Sicam are fundamental to our growth path, because they allow us to get in touch with other companies in the sector, to confront common challenges and to anticipate market demands.
We believe that continuous dialogue with our partners and customers is essential to develop solutions that are increasingly in step with the times, capable of meeting future needs without ever losing sight of excellence.

New technologies offer three-dimensional solutions in various fields of application, especially in the area of surfaces. How do you think they can be incorporated into your production reality?
With Marmo Arredo, we have developed a new finish, Crosta, designed to be applied to both natural stone and mineral surfaces with thicknesses greater than 3 centimeters. The Crosta finish is distinguished by its three-dimensional texture, which recalls the rough, natural appearance of rocks, resulting in surfaces that seem to tell stories of erosion and change over time. This treatment gives the stone an irregular and rough surface, capable of playing with light and shadow, creating dynamic visual effects and a strong aesthetic impact.
What are the elements necessary for a sustainable product to really have all the requirements to call itself a sustainable product?
For us at Scapin Group, a truly sustainable product must be thought of in an integrated way, considering each phase of the life cycle. First and foremost, the choice of materials is key, giving preference to those that are recyclable or have a low environmental impact, as in Ecotone™ surfaces, the Quartzforms® brand's collection of sustainable slabs with a crystalline silica content of less than 5 percent, designed to offer a greener solution for interior design. A product must then be designed for durability and strength. We also strive to make our production processes efficient and low-impact, minimizing waste and optimizing energy consumption.

The central theme of the upcoming interzum 2025 will be “Rethinking Resources: circular and biobased solutions.” How important is this change today?
After several years devoted to relentless research and development, Ecotone™ was born, as I mentioned earlier, the new generation of slabs made from recycled components, resin derived from bio compound and with a crystalline silica content of less than 5 percent, which, through the most advanced technology applied to mineral matter, offers an alternative with low environmental impact while maintaining exceptional technical performance such as resistance to impacts, scratches, stains and acidic substances.
In nature, the ecotone is a transitional environment between two ecosystems or more generally between two homogeneous yet distinct entities.Ecotone™ stands precisely as a transitional material between the technical mineral produced with a traditional methodology and a more cutting-edge surface that places its main focus on respecting our Planet. In fact, the production of Ecotone™ slabs uses 60 percent energy from wind power and includes the recycling of the water used. The collection consists of twelve surfaces-Atlantis, Nirvana, Gold, Lasa, Poseidon, Mahal, Mystic, Crono, Sienna, Flamingo, Avalon, Sunrise-with soft and delicate colors, ideal for competing in interior design projects with a high aesthetic impact.

According to FederlegnoArredo's recent FURNCIRCLE research, 44 percent of companies in the sector have implemented ecodesign policies and 81 percent plan to do so by 2027. Certifications, training and circular economy are considered the strategic assets for the future.
For both of our entities, Marmo Arredo and Quartzforms®, ecodesign policies, certifications and the circular economy represent not only strategic goals, but also key levers for building a sustainable and innovative future. FederlegnoArredo's recent research underscores a trend that fully reflects our vision: in a world where sustainability is increasingly decisive, we believe that these strategies are not only viable, but essential to strengthen our market position and actively contribute to the sector's ecological transition.
Ecodesign is an integral part of our vision: optimizing the use of natural materials and reducing waste through innovative technologies. We are obtaining environmental certifications such as ISO 14001 to ensure the sustainability of our processes. We also promote the circular economy by recovering and reusing materials, reducing environmental impact and improving production efficiency.
With Quartzforms®, on the other hand, we are committed to creating durable, recyclable and environmentally friendly surfaces. We aim for certifications such as Greenguard to ensure the quality and sustainability of our products. The circular economy is at the heart of our production, with a strong commitment to the recovery and reuse of materials. Surfaces, in fact, also hold NSF certification-for direct contact with food and water-and LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), while we are working on achieving CFP-Carbon Footprint labeling.

Customization is a very strong trend in recent years, present not only at the Salone del Mobile in Milan and thus with the finished product, but also at Sicam. A product that is expressed through finishes, textures, colors, custom made products.
Customization is a central theme for both of our companies, Marble Furniture and Quartzforms®, and we approach it with an approach that combines innovation, research and high quality. In a market increasingly oriented toward custom solutions, we believe that the ability to offer customized products not only responds to customer needs, but also allows us to express our creativity and commitment to craftsmanship excellence.
With Marble Furniture, we offer unique products thanks to the possibility of choosing from a wide range of finishes, textures and colors of marble and other stone materials. Each stone, in fact, is a unique piece, with unrepeatable characteristics that make it perfect to fit any project. Marmo Arredo, for example, has been selected to make part of the furniture in the bathroom area, rooms and flooring for the common area of The Venice Venice accommodation, working the finest stones in full respect of the Venetian tradition. Two different types of natural stones in line with the hotel's elegant allure were used for washbasins, shower compartments, wall coverings and bathroom tops: red cipollino marble and anthracite gray marble, along with marble resin, an agglomerate of marble grit joined by resin, combining tradition and contemporaneity in a perfect balance.
With Quartzforms®, on the other hand, we respond to each customer's specific needs with a wide range of colors. Our surfaces are carefully selected to ensure the best combination of aesthetics and function, allowing you to choose the most suitable solution based on individual tastes and needs.
