Mathera, the new-generation surface resulting from the collaboration between SAIB Egger Group and Diego Grandi, has won the Good Design Award 2023, a prestigious award that confirms the innovative character of the project.
The Good Design Award, founded in 1950 by MoMA curator Edgar Kaufmann, Jr. with architects and designers Charles and Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen, Russel Wright and George Nelson, is one of the oldest and most prestigious awards in the industry internationally.
The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, which chairs the award today, received a very high number of entries this year from leading companies and industrial and graphic design studios. The jury, made up of leading figures from the worlds of design, press and industry, selected, from more than 1100 projects, those that represent the best in terms of sustainability, function and aesthetic quality.
Mathera, a solid and technologically advanced surface
Mathera is a panel collection characterised by very high technical and aesthetic performance, which can be completely regenerated at the end of its use cycle.
The surface is created by combining a thin layer of quartz, stone and wood powders from processing waste and amalgamated with resinous binders; this is then combined with a SAIB Egger Group chipboard made exclusively from post-consumer wood, in line with the values of the circular economy.
Solid and technologically advanced, the Mathera surface has scratch-, impact- and stain-resistant properties, concentrating a high level of resistance in a very limited thickness.
Great versatility of use
Inspired by the world of stone, the Mathera surface is offered in three finishes: Selce, Areia and Gipso. Selce evokes the world of split stone, reworking the aesthetic qualities of slate.
Areia has a uniform, compact texture scattered with contrasting mineral grains reminiscent of the bush-hammering of sandstone.
Gipso reinterprets the malleable texture of chalk, revealing a soft, velvety surface.
The collection is available in ten colours, offering great versatility of use: from kitchen tops to furnishings and boiserie, from home office furniture to multi-purpose containers and tables for the residential, contract and hospitality sectors.
