Catas, the most important Italian and European testing institute in the wood and furniture sector, is celebrating fifty years of activity this year.Fifty years characterized by constant growth confirming the right choice, made in 1969, to create a laboratory at the service of companies, first of the territory and then of the world. The willingness to stand by the producers of the sector, to participate in first person at the Italian and international tables where the rules were written that certify a “good product“ or a “good material“, have determined the success of the Catas in these fifty years.During a press conference held in Milan at the headquarters of FederlegnoArredo, shareholder of Catas together with the Chamber of Commerce of Pordenone-Udine, the initiatives that will be established by Catas to celebrate this important anniversary were presented.Andrea Giavon, director of Catas, has traced the evolution of the laboratory, born in 1969 by the will of the Chamber of Commerce of Udine as “Center of technical assistance companies of the sector of the wooden chair“ in what was then known as the Triangle of the Chair. The Friulian reality has soon become the protagonist of the world of testing, certification, training and standardization at the world level so as to have a second office, Catas Brianza, located right in the heart of the most famous furniture district in the world. The data are clear: about 10 thousand square meters of laboratory in which more than fifty highly skilled technicians work, a turnover of about seven million euros, two thousand customers in 55 countries around the world who last year asked Catas to carry out 48 thousand tests.
The initiatives scheduled for this year
Catas deputy director, Franco Bulian, illustrated the initiatives planned for this year: the renewal of the catas.com site, the creation of an “ad hoc“ logo to celebrate fifty years and a rich calendar of technical and seminars.A special file will also be produced, in collaboration with the prestigious National Geographic, to offer a “particular“ business card of Catas in the world. The laboratory also instructed Cerved to carry out a study to learn about the satisfaction of its customers.Other initiatives are aimed at the origins of Catas, in its native territory as the collaboration for the recovery and maintenance of the “Ciceri Collection“ of antique furniture and furnishings hosted by the ethnographic museum of Friuli and the participation with its own team in Telethon, the next December, to show solidarity with the people of Udine and neighboring municipalities. Also the Catas Brianza office will be involved in the celebrations for the fiftieth of Catas with two days of open doors dedicated to entrepreneurs and citizens of Lissone. In Brianza the Catas counts numerous partnerships and carries on with a commitment of four courses (for a total of 180 hours of teaching) in the training camp of Lentate sul Seveso wanted and managed by FederlegnoArredo.Last important initiative is the inauguration of the new mobile workshop, scheduled for next October. This is a hyper-technological structure, a 4.0 laboratory of over 4,300 square meters that will rise in place of the structure destroyed by the fire of December 2016 and which will also host new spaces for the training activity of the “Catas Academy“.
