Schattdecor was awarded the “Top Design Award“ for the fourth time at the Arena Design trade fair in Poznan (Poland). The Amberwood decorative surface went to the finals along with 21 other products and then won in the Materials and Components category.
Amberwood: a decorative surface of great charm
The Amberwood design is a tribute to the past, a historical tribute to the Granary Island of Gdansk. As the basis for the layout, the designers used wood from the centuries-old foundation piles of the famous old warehouses in Gdansk, buildings dating back to the 13th and 16th centuries. These poles have supported the port and industrial infrastructure for centuries. In addition to the high load, the structure was exposed to extreme weather conditions for many years and the lower part was underwater for a long time. The result: a special appearance of the wood with thick grain and unique colour.
The contrast between the rich shades of grey and the yellow and green shades creates a harmonious and unique decorative surface of great charm, particularly suitable for classic and modern interiors.
Amberwood decorative: unique for age and colouring
“With our new Amberwood development, we have managed to preserve a piece of history and reinterpret it in application and reproduction,“ explained Claudia Küchen, member of the Management Board as Head of Design and Marketing at Schattdecor.
In addition to the Schattdecor designers and developers, the Polish company Divadlo was also involved in the international team and saved the wood from destruction. Its founder, Adam Stadnik, pointed out that the Amberwood decor is a unique material in terms of age and special colouring and that it has been preserved thanks to the collaboration with Schattdecor.
The fast-paced pace of life and a flood of daily stimuli are driving people more and more to look for authentic, natural materials that embody a piece of history, that have the fascination of time and the stratification that the centuries have created - all of this is reflected in the Amberwood decorative surface.
“It is a great honour for us that our current technology,“ says Małgorzata Sarnicka, Customer Manager at Schattdecor Poland, “allows us to preserve a piece of Gdansk's centuries-old historical material. A wood that was chosen a long time ago to build granaries, which has gone through such a long life cycle and is still available today.
