Salone del Mobile.Milano 2024 registered a record attendance of +17.1% compared to 2023: 361,417 total attendees (+100,000 compared to 2022), 54.3% coming from abroad, as well as an excellent number of operators registering +26.8%, with 65.8% coming from abroad. 1,950 exhibitors came from 35 countries.
Maria Porro, President of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, was satisfied with these figures: "The 62nd Salone del Mobile.Milano exceeded all expectations: it was a record edition. We recorded exceptional results, thanks to the trust of an ecosystem that once again recognised the Show's international leadership. With 361,417 attendees, the Exhibition has reconfirmed itself as a unique event in the world, an essential bridge of dialogue with the new geographies of the markets: an intercontinental city open to innovation, where competition accelerates the competitiveness of a key sector for the economy of the country and beyond. A great 'factory' of meaning and lasting value, product and employment, material and immaterial culture'.
The numbers of the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2024
As far as the origin of visitors to the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2024 is concerned, there was a great return of China, followed by Germany, Spain, Brazil, France, the United States, Poland, Russia, Switzerland, Turkey, India, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan and Austria. Delegations from the United States, India, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, France and Saudi Arabia are also numerous.
Compared to last year, media attendance increased: 5,552 accredited journalists and communication operators for a total of 6,778 visitors (50.4% from abroad), attracted by an event that was able to interpret and tell the world about the new frontiers of design.
Over the weekend, when the Exhibition is also open to non-specialists, 32,567 visitors were registered, confirming how a top-level offer, complemented by an international Cultural Programme, attracts the interest of both professionals and design enthusiasts.
The number of Italian and foreign students also rose to 13,556, of which 8,368 were Italian (+25.5%), for an average overall growth of 18.8%. Finally, the numbers of the digital community of the Show's multi-channel platform exceeded expectations: over 1 million interactions (+50% vs. 2023) with an engagement rate of 60%, and 90 million impressions (+15% vs. 2023).
Genius, vision and “industrial craftsmanship”
These data confirm, once again, the key role of the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2024, which has gone beyond the perimeter of the trade fair dimension, driven by a second phase of re-design of the layout and visitor routes, which this year involved the biennial EuroCucina / FTK, Technology For the Kitchen and Salone Internazionale del Bagno, two sectors strongly committed to experimenting with new aesthetics and functions in high-tech projects, increasingly oriented towards a sustainable approach.
Claudio Feltrin, President of FederlegnoArredo says: "This was a truly exceptional edition that rewards the extraordinary work carried out by exhibitors over the past year. Once again, the entrepreneurs accepted the challenge and after 62 years, we can say with certainty that we are the undisputed leaders, capable of attracting design from all over the world to the pavilions of Fiera Milano, Rho, confirming the Milan Furniture Fair as the most important sector exhibition at international level. The secret? Genius, vision, determination and that unique 'industrial craftsmanship' that only our products can express. It is the companies and the wood-furniture supply chain that are the economic driving force behind this umpteenth success of which we are proud and which it is our duty to continue to enhance, as an expression of the great system that is Italian design. We have done so and we will continue to do so in the knowledge that the Salone del Mobile.Milano is first and foremost a business fair that allows even the smallest companies to show themselves to such a vast and specialised audience, which they would hardly be able to reach individually".
The New Widespread Cultural Programme
The new diffuse Cultural Programme, coordinated by Annalisa Rosso, Editorial Director & Cultural Events Advisor, was a great success with the public. Three major installations were the protagonists of the 2024 edition.
The first, Interiors by David Lynch. A Thinking Room, designed by David Lynch, stood out as an oasis of regeneration, categorically blue: "A place to make thinking happen", according to Antonio Monda, curator of the project, which took shape inside a precious "container", designed by Lombardini22, thanks to the Laboratori del Piccolo Teatro di Milano.
The second, Under the Surface, designed by Accurat, Design Group Italia and Emiliano Ponzi, emphasised, with a submerged island in the heart of the International Bathroom Exhibition, the sector's commitment to the search for new solutions aimed at saving the Planet's most precious resource, water.
The third, under the title All You Have Ever Wanted to Know About Food Design in Six Performances, shared multiple reflections on food as a design subject in an experiential key, through 6 days of performances and presentations by 6 independent international magazines. Great interest was also aroused by the cycle of Round Tables that animated the Arena with an open discussion between authoritative voices on key issues for the sector, and not only, such as the relationship between boating and design, the potential and risks of artificial intelligence, new developments in the hospitality sector, sector macro-trends with Intesa Sanpaolo, and a sensory journey in the company of Aesop.
25 years of the SaloneSatellite
Once again this year, the SaloneSatellite brought to light the creativity of over 600 young designers, celebrating a special anniversary with talks, round tables and a major exhibition at the Milan Triennale, open to the public until 28 April: Universo Satellite. 25 years of SaloneSatellite, curated by Beppe Finessi and set up by Ricardo Bello Dias.
The 63rd Salone del Mobile.Milano will take place from 8 to 13 April 2025.
