After two years of pandemic, with previous editions held equally but in reduced format, the wait was great, as was the ferment in the city. The 2022 edition of the Milan Design Week was full of events and was able to attract an international audience entirely in presence. Milan has once again confirmed itself as the undisputed capital of design: a lively and attractive city that has been able to host over 800 events in the area.
Taking up the challenges of tomorrow, intercepting the changes taking place
Design quality, innovation and sustainability were the three fundamental themes around which the Fuorisalone 2022 event entitled "Between Space and Time" developed, which wanted to suggest ideas that could look at and meet the challenges of tomorrow, intercepting the ongoing changes.
Also this year Fuorisalone was an excellent opportunity, much appreciated by foreign visitors, to discover historical places in the city such as Palazzo Serbelloni, Palazzo Citterio, Palazzo Litta, Palazzo Reale, Palazzo Isimbardi, Palazzo Turati, Palazzo Senato, Palazzo Visconti and the Milanese Philological Circle; within them even more projects and installations of refined elegance stood out. Fuorisalone also allows you to see usually inaccessible places, as in the case of Alcova which opened the doors of the former Military Hospital of Baggio or the former Necchi factory which hosted Baranzate Ateliers, or Dropcity, the new home of Architecture and Design of Milan which will officially open its doors in 2024 based on a project by the architect Andrea Caputo.
Also in this edition, the contribution of fashion companies proved to be precious, which were able to take advantage of the prestigious Fuorisalone showcase to tell an international audience, with projects related to furniture both at the fair and in the city.
Exceptional numbers for Fuorisalone.it
Fuorisalone.it counted a total of over 800 events, 1380 designers and 1061 brands, for a total of 17,841 events saved as favorites in the reserved area of the site. The edition recorded an audience of more than 350 thousand unique users and 2.3 million page views. Among the most visited social channels in first place Instagram, which saw an increase of 17 thousand followers and a coverage of 2 million users.
The organizers of the Fuorisalone declared themselves very satisfied. Paolo Casati in fact declared: "This Fuorisalone confirmed the expectations we had and in part exceeded them, because it was able to best represent the proposed theme" Between Space and Time "by proposing innovative projects in balance between physical and digital, focusing on the person and his relationship with matter and technology. We have discovered new places in the city, in a polycentric model that represents the voice of a complex network, and with this we understood the importance of planning that is the manifest of a heterogeneous work group and not the vision of an individual. We observed a much more attentive and educated audience to listen and share their impressions in a rediscovered moment of relationship, which is the true magic of the Fuorisalone ".
Fuorisalone Award: "Divided Layers" awarded
This year the 2022 edition of the Fuorisalone Award was inaugurated, a recognition that rewarded the contents and installations presented during the Milan Design Week, created with the contribution of the Lombardy Region through the DEMO Call - Design and Fashion Initiatives and Events.
Among the 20 events selected, the most voted by the Milan Design Week community was "Divided Layers", the exhibition created by Kohler inside Palazzo Senato: an installation based on the release of a 3D printed product that artist Daniel Arsham designed in collaboration with the US company.
There were also four special mentions resulting from a joint work by a technical committee and jurors who focused on content of relevance to the world of design and design, qualitatively innovative and rich in meaning.
