Cosentino's new Earthic® by Silestone® XM hybrid surface collection, developed in collaboration with design studio Formafantasma, is the result of an intensive research project on product and production process sustainability.
Presented at Milan Design Week, Earthic surfaces are made from a new blend of premium minerals and more than 30 percent recycled materials-such as glass, PET, post-consumer bio-resin and recycled Dekton® fragments-that significantly reduces the extraction of raw materials, limiting soil erosion and CO2 emissions.

XM marks another step toward sustainability by ushering in a new category of Silestone® surfaces produced with a maximum crystalline silica content of 10 percent.
In addition, thanks to Cosentino's Hybriq+® technology, the entire production cycle uses 99 percent recycled water and 100 percent renewable electricity.
More sustainable production approaches
Earthic is a project that focuses on concern for the Planet and minimizes the impact of Cosentino surfaces by producing in a more conscious way.
Design studio Formafantasma has explored more sustainable production approaches with Cosentino by transforming waste materials into carriers of the future.

Post-industrial recycled glass becomes an integral part of the surface and shapes the design from within. Recycled PET joins the formulation as does post-consumer bioresin derived from vegetable oil and recycled cooking oil. Even fragments of ultra-compact Dekton® stone, discarded from the production process at Cosentino factories, are reused to produce new surfaces that last.
Earthic Collection: two color series
The Earthic collection comes in two color series: Earthic / FFROM X Formafantasma, with three different surfaces that reflect the origin and provenance of the materials, while also representing the innovation and transformation of these recycled materials into something new, and Earthic / RAW X Cosentino Studio, which includes three patterns and colors that capture the essence of the material in its most authentic state, combined with shapes that can express a new aesthetic.

The Earthic Lab installation at Fuorisalone
The Earthic surface collection was also the thread running through the Earthic Lab installation curated by Formafantasma that Cosentino presented at Fuorisalone within the historic walls of the striking Teatro Gerolamo.

The objective of the installation was to accompany visitors to explore the research conducted for the development of the eponymous collection by proposing an experiential journey toward ethical production and a new concept of innovative surfaces.
A video interview with Formafantasma also emphasized the importance of addressing sustainability within the industry through the use of new sources of recycled raw materials, which also has a positive impact on the design and appearance of the final product itself.
