Rehau, a company specialising in the development of solutions for the furniture industry, presented three new edging solutions at Sicam 2023 that expand the Raukantex edging family: they are Raukantex pigment, folding and lumina, edgings that make furniture design aesthetically perfect and long-lasting, simplifying the work of furniture manufacturers, interior designers and carpenters.
Innovative edging solutions
The three new edgebanding solutions proposed by Rehau at Sicam 2023, Raukantex pigment, folding and lumina, are in line with the main trends of the moment.
Raukantex pigment follows the trend for textured surfaces: thanks to the use of an innovative formulation, the new pigmented milling radius edging reproduces the aesthetic and tactile appearance of various textures, such as ceramic, concrete or stone, even in bevelled areas, resulting in a finished component with a frameless design and extremely impact-resistant.
Raukantex folding, on the other hand, is Rehau's answer to the trend towards maximum customisation for ultra-modern interior design. The polypropylene edge, which can take on different conformations during soft-forming or corner edging, can be used to create special fronts, e.g. without handles, without the risk of bleaching or cracks in the paintwork. Also interesting are the possibilities offered by the filigree side panel structure. This results in long-lasting, extremely durable and easy-to-clean components. In addition, the folding process, without pre-cutting the edge, is already state-of-the-art in the door sector.
Finally, the 3D Raukantex lumina edge is characterised by its unique lighting effects. When exposed to UV or artificial light, the special luminescent pigments contained in the new Raukantex lumina edgings absorb light and convert it by emitting it again, creating a striking luminous effect without the need for electricity or batteries, and finding application wherever light accents are required, such as in counters, sideboards or shelves.
The Raukantex range protagonist of important innovations
Since 1970, the Raukantex range has repeatedly been the protagonist of important innovations capable of enriching the furniture sector: among the most significant is the patented Raukantex pro laser edge, which laid the foundations for the creation of components without a frame effect, both aesthetically and functionally. Rehau's ongoing commitment to building an offering that meets customer needs has led to innovations and new developments that see component quality, functional edge appearance and sustainability as the main drivers of progress and continued growth.
In order to offer the right edging for every surface, the Rehau Interior Solutions division always works closely with leading panel manufacturers and suppliers to facilitate the work of interior designers, furniture manufacturers and joiners.
Rehau: sustainable products and processes
Rehau Interior Solutions is resolutely and precisely aiming for a closed-loop circular economy: the goal is to increase the percentage of recycled materials, use more alternative raw materials and extend the use of renewable energy sources globally. As of 2020, in fact, the edging production in all European plants will be 100% powered by clean sources and many more sites are being equipped with solar parks for energy-independent production.
In addition to production, Rehau is also constantly working to make its products sustainable, without compromising on quality and design. Examples of this are the Raukantex eco and evo edgings: the former are made from 50 per cent post-industrial recycled material; the latter follow a different approach, using a mass-balanced PP based on non-fossil raw materials, unlike traditional polypropylene edgings. Raukantex evo edgings are ISCC PLUS certified, guaranteeing traceability along the entire chain of compliance with the stringent ISCC PLUS sustainability requirements during production.
Finally, the Rehau Interior Solutions division has taken a further step towards the circular economy through a new recovery concept that allows both Raukantex edgings and, subject to verification, unprocessed edgings from other manufacturers to be recycled in the Rehau product range.
