During the General Assembly of Assopannelli, the association of FederlegnoArredo representing Italian companies producing wood panels and semi-finished wood products, Paolo Fantoni was appointed new president for the four-year period 2020-2024 .
Vice-Chairman of Fantoni spa and Chairman of Fantoni Blu, Paolo Fantoni has held a number of important roles within FederlegnoArredo: first as Director of Assufficio and then for several years Vice-Chairman, for a long time he was head of the Assopannelli Truciolare Group, of which he was also Chairman.  He is co-founder of the EPF (European Panel Federation) in Brussels, the European association of chipboard and MDF manufacturers, created through the merger of EMB and FESYP, and has been its Chairman since June 2015. 

Environmental sustainability and circular economy

The themes of environmental sustainability, the circular economy and the European Green Deal will be at the heart of Assopannelli's operations.
“We are witnessing a renewed interest in the home, in terms of consumer orientation and household spending: an interest that gives a new perspective to our entire sector, an integrated supply chain that makes Italian design a strategic strength for the entire system“, says Paolo Fantoni.  “The Covid emergency also represents a challenge from the point of view of operations, just think of digital as a fundamental instrument of proximity between the Federation and its members. This road will have to be continued and enhanced“.

Recovery and development of poplar farming

The cornerstone of Assopannelli's activity will be the recovery and development of poplar cultivation, which represents the most significant internal source of timber for industry in Italy. This recovery will also be achieved thanks to the use of new tools such as the valorisation of the CO2 stored and stored in the wood, rather than the use of floodplain land, which must represent an area in which to replant traditional cultivation, especially in the Po Valley, in agreement with the regional authorities.
Finally, the introduction of the responsibility extended to furniture producers will be fundamental, so that the circular economy, hoped for in Brussels, will also extend to this sector, and not only to the world of wooden packaging. Not forgetting, even before recycling, the reuse of recovered furniture.
