The Salone del Mobile.Milano suspends the 2020 edition by rescheduling the appointment from 13 to 18 April 2021. So after the Tokyo Olympics, Vinitaly, Art Basel, the Detroit Motor Show, just to name a few, even the most important event in the world for furniture and design had to give in to the dramatic situation.
The continuing emergency situation, which is expanding in almost all the countries of the world, has led the top management of the Salone del Mobile.Milano to decide to cancel this year's edition for good. After all, the conditions that had induced the shift from April to June, announced last February 25, have completely changed.
The 2021 edition, which will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, will be a special appointment for the entire sector. For the first time, all the biennials will be presented together with Salone Internazionale del Mobile, Salone Internazionale del Complemento d'Arredo, Workplace3.0, S.Project and SaloneSatellite: in addition to Euroluce, already scheduled for 2021, EuroCucina, with its collateral event FTK - Technology for the Kitchen and Salone Internazionale del Bagno, will also be present. There will therefore be a single major system event that will certainly represent an opportunity to relaunch businesses and the entire supply chain working in synergy with the Show and for Milan.
A very painful but inevitable decision
The President of FederlegnoArredo Emanuele Orsini commented: “I never imagined we would have to do this, I never imagined we would have to suspend the 2020 edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano and postpone it. This is a very painful decision, first of all because of the dramatic context in which it takes place, with Covid-19 that has brought Lombardy, Italy and beyond to its knees, and secondly because we are postponing the most important design event in the world by one year: a unique international event, a symbol of the excellence of Made in Italy, with 400 thousand buyers from all over the world and the enthusiastic support of an entire city“.
FederlegnoArredo close to its entrepreneurs
At this time, FederlegnoArredo wants to remain close to its entrepreneurs and employees of its member companies and precisely to show its closeness and gratitude to the regions of Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia and Marche, FederlegnoArredo wanted to make a donation of 500,000 euros, divided between institutions and associations that are in the front line to combat the emergency. “Everyone has teamed up with us for the success of the Salone del Mobile.Milan, we do it with our communities, in one of the most difficult moments in the history of our country,“ said Orsini. For FederlegnoArredo, it's time to stand by our entire supply chain,“ concluded Emanuele Orsini, “and as a Federation we've been doing this since the emergency began. It's hard, very hard, but we will be able to find the strength to look ahead and have our eyes and minds stretched towards the sixtieth edition, which we promise will be even more a special edition, which will have the flavour of the rebirth of a country that will proudly show the strength and creativity of its manufacturing to the whole world“.
