Also this year Materially participates in the Milano Design Week, scheduled from 4 to 10 September, with the seventh edition of - Materials Village - Special Edition, the event designed to promote the development and dissemination of innovation and sustainability from materials.
Hosted within the Superdesign Show 2021 of Superstudio Più, Materials Village will focus on the theme of Living, turning its attention to materials, production processes and technologies aimed at sustainability, performance optimization and circular economy logic.
The transformation of everyday living
The last fifteen months have witnessed a true transformation of everyday living. The home has become an office and a school, public spaces have become gyms, private means of transport have become places of privacy, accentuating a trend that for some time now has seen airports transformed into shopping malls and hotels into spas and galleries. In all these changes, materials play a decisive role, representing the so-called “solid factor“, the solid side, which can contribute to the virtuous transformation of living objects. Precisely this solid side, together with that of sustainability, will be analyzed by a collective of companies and start-ups that make innovation and care for processes the focus of their work.
Ecological transition at the “WastEnders“ exhibition
The theme of ecological transition will then find its fulcrum in the “WastEnders“ exhibition, curated by Materially's team of researchers, dedicated to startups and young companies that develop innovative materials from agricultural, urban or industrial waste or apply them to everyday objects.
The exhibition aims to explore new families of materials that reduce waste because they are developed from recovered raw materials, or because they are entirely bio-based and biodegradable, or because they use clean processes. It also tells about different possible approaches to waste reduction. Throughout Design Week, Materials Village and exhibition content will be disseminated through “Talking Materially,“ a series of daily online events, talks and panels.
