Giovanni Covre, who will head Eureka's operations and general management from 2025, responds to key issues for the subcontracting industry such as innovation, eco-design and customization.
At the last Sicam, innovation was the key word in all areas, confirming the great research work being done by companies in the subcontracting sector to come up with new products. How is your company dealing with these issues?
Product innovation, and therefore process innovation, is our priority. Our company has always focused on innovation in order to maintain market leadership and to widen the gap between us and our Italian and international competitors. Our mission is to produce complete, complex and innovative products.

New technologies offer three-dimensional solutions in various application areas, especially in the field of surfaces. How do you see them being incorporated into your production reality?
Although they are not yet part of our production strategy, we are aware of the potential of 3D solutions and are ready to carefully evaluate the opportunities that will arise in the market.
Ecodesign is the thread that runs through all the departments present at Sicam. To create a sustainable product, what are the elements necessary for it to meet all the requirements to be called such?
The level of sustainability to be achieved is a complex objective that requires a long-term commitment and a systemic approach. Although the concept of sustainability is now widely accepted, it often lacks a clear and pragmatic definition of the actions to be taken. One company alone cannot solve the problem; it is necessary for the entire supply chain to adopt sustainable practices. In Italy, as in many other parts of the world, we are still far from achieving this goal. I strongly believe in the need to have internal employees who are actively and concretely involved in sustainable actions of various kinds, who question projects and processes to make them truly sustainable.
The central theme of the upcoming interzum 2025 is "Rethinking Resources: Circular and Biobased Solutions". Is your company ready for this change?
We are aware of the growing importance of sustainability and our production processes are ready to meet the new market demands. Interzum 2025 is an opportunity to look at the latest trends and identify new solutions to make our company and our products increasingly sustainable.
According to the recent FurnCIRCLE study by FederlegnoArredo, 44 percent of companies in the sector have implemented eco-design policies and 81 percent plan to do so by 2027. Certifications, training and circular economy are considered strategic assets for the future. Do you consider these strategies viable for your company?
Yes, and in this context, a dedicated internal team capable of driving viable projects and monitoring their results is essential.
Customization has been a very strong trend in recent years, not only at the Salone del Mobile in Milan and therefore with the finished product, but also at Sicam. A product that is expressed through finishes, textures, colors, custom-made products. How important is this for your company?
Absolutely important and strategic for the future of our economy. We should continue to equip ourselves to meet the constant demand for customization. Customization and service will enable us to face the competition from developing countries!
The Filo aluminum sash profile
The latest economic data is certainly not exciting, with negative signals coming from all sectors, or at best "cautious optimism" for the future. Your analysis of the market and possible future scenarios.
We are optimistic by nature and ready to roll up our sleeves, so we are not swayed by macroeconomic forecasts, especially when they are negative! Of course we are objective, things are not great, but we are coming out of three very good post-Covid years for our industry. We are now taking advantage of this lull to reorganize, streamline processes and look for new opportunities, because there are so many out there!
