Cosentino celebrates its first 40 years of activity characterized by successes and considerable international expansion. Just forty years ago the commercial company Marmoles Cosentino S.A. was founded, later transformed into Cosentino S.A. and, finally, into the Cosentino Group, one of the most important Spanish companies present in 40 countries around the world, with a total turnover of over 1.1 billion euros in 2019 and almost 5000 employees, half of which in Spain.
In the space of forty years, a small family business with only 17 employees has been able to transform itself into a multinational, still family-owned, that produces and distributes innovative surfaces for the world of architecture and design.
Cosentino: the stages of success
The first significant success achieved by the company was certainly in 1990 the launch of the Silestone® natural quartz line, defined at the time by the prestigious weekly Time “one of the most important innovations of the twentieth century“. Thanks to the excellent feedback obtained by Silestone®, the company undertook an ambitious process of internationalization both in Europe, through its subsidiary Cosentino Northwest Europe, and in the United States.
At the beginning of the 2000s, Cosentino Latina was inaugurated in Brazil, the Group's first production plant outside Spain, still specialised in the processing of granites and quartzites.
In 2009 the offer was expanded with Sensa®, a line of natural stones with exclusive stain protection.
In 2013 it is the turn of another great success on the international market: the ultra-compact Dekton® surface. The result of exclusive “TSP“ particle sintering technology, this material has superior technical properties that make it suitable for all types of indoor and outdoor applications. Since 2016 Dekton® is also certified by the Environmental Product Declaration.
Cosentino: the reasons for success
International expansion, constant investment in innovation and R&D, safety and transparency, respect for the environment and sustainability: these are the values on which the Cosentino Group's strategy has always been based. A fundamental pillar for the company is represented by human capital.
Cosentino, in fact, is constantly engaged in the research and training of young talents, many of them from Almeria and Andalusia, which it prepares to be team leader in different countries around the world.
In these 40 years its development strategy has also proved effective, supported by the creation of special sales and distribution structures, the Cosentino Center, and Cosentino City, innovative showrooms in the heart of the world's most important cities.
This growth would not have been possible without all the suppliers, collaborators, partners and customers who have placed their trust in Cosentino over the years. For its part, the company imagines and anticipates, together with its customers and partners, design solutions that bring value and inspiration to people's lives.
Numerous corporate initiatives have been designed to celebrate this anniversary in order to recognize the value and contribution that everyone has been able to make in the growth path of the Group.
The President of the Cosentino Group, Francisco Martínez-Cosentino Justo, said: “Together with my brothers, we wanted to create a lasting, sustainable project that would generate wealth for the local community, but also for the entire stone sector. Those first dreams were realized but the journey was complicated and hard times were not lacking. Just in these months we are experiencing one, an unexpected and deep health, social and economic crisis that will leave its mark on all of us. This 2020 does not offer us the best context to celebrate our first 40 years of life, but it is precisely at times like these that we must be able to look beyond.
