CSIL, the Centro Studi Industria Leggera that celebrates its 40 years of activity this year, has drawn up a new report on “The Italian kitchen furniture market“. As usual, the report offers a complete picture of the kitchen furniture sector in Italy, providing data and trends in kitchen furniture production and consumption, imports and exports.
The Italian kitchen furniture market: breakdown and structure of the report
Within the report we find the prices of kitchen furniture, the marketing policies, the distribution system and the main players, as well as the value and weight of household appliances on kitchen furniture sales.
The offer of kitchen furniture is divided by door material, (solid wood, veneer, laminate, thermoplastics, lacquered, melamine, aluminium, glass), kitchen style, (classic, country, modern, design, high technology), colour, (white, glossy, neutral, wood appearance), door finish (glossy, matt) and worktop material (solid surface materials, natural and composite stone, quartz, laminate, ceramic slabs, steel, aluminium, wood, glass).
The exports and imports of Italian kitchen furniture are indicated by country and geographical area of origin/destination. The trend of factory prices of kitchens, data on production concentration and employment as well as the main financial indicators for a sample of companies are also provided.
As far as distribution is concerned, the analysis addresses the following distribution channels: direct sales/contract, specialised kitchen retailers, furniture stores, purchasing groups, furniture chains and department stores.
The competitive system analyses sales data, market shares together with short company profiles of the main kitchen furniture manufacturers on the domestic market (as a whole and by macro geographical areas), on the foreign market and by average factory price.
The report considers both kitchen furniture and built-in appliances sold through this channel. An overview of the sales of the main built-in appliances divided by category (Sinks, Hobs, Ovens, Hoods, Refrigerators, Dishwashers) is included in the report. Also included is a list of addresses of about 80 of the main Italian manufacturers of kitchen furniture.
The Italian kitchen furniture market: economic analysis
In 2020, Italian kitchen furniture manufacturers will see an inevitable decline in sales in the domestic market of an estimated 12%. However, most companies have the technological, organizational, human and financial potential to participate in a market recovery process that will be completed in no less than two years.
The top ten companies in the sector control about 60% of production and in 2019 they consolidated their positions both in Italy and abroad. Among others, we observe a sustained growth in production for Veneta Cucine ed Arredo 3, sales in Italy for Lube (in the photo, the Clover kitchen), Turi and Stosa, and sales in foreign markets for Snaidero, Boffi and Poliform. A further increase in market share has been recorded on the national market for large distribution, both Mondo Convenienza and Ikea.
An element of strength of Italian kitchens remains the close relationship with the built-in appliance industry, which accounts for about 27% of sales of kitchen manufacturers in the domestic market. On the national territory, kitchen furniture manufacturers are present with almost 430 showrooms and abroad with 180.
As far as trends are concerned, which already emerged in 2019 and early 2020, there is an increasingly important role of technology, a greater attention to sustainability issues, the introduction of PET for the finishing of doors, the growing presence of larger container modules including special cabinets and finally the offer of kitchen models specifically dedicated to the outdoors.
