TBI Architecture & Engineering of Barcelona, led by architect Miguel Jordá, was one of the first architectural studios to experiment with the use of the innovative DeepColor™ Technology. It is a production technology developed by DuPont that allows to produce the dark colors of DuPont™ Corian® with higher performance, reliability, durability and hygiene, as well as functionality, elegance and design. In effect, one of the four shades of black of DuPont™ Corian®, Deep Nocturne, a jet-black shade, solid and very versatile, has been selected for the construction of the bar of the stylish Vincci Gala Hotel, project of great stylistic impact in the Eixample district of Barcelona. Gregor Mertens, architect and project coordinator of this four-star hotel, explains the reasons that led him to prefer the new DeepColor™ Technology: “DuPont™ Corian® has allowed us to obtain a continuous, organic form, of an intense black color, in neat chromatic contrast with the golden color of the bar, but at the same time its superior performance made it perfectly suited to the rectangular structure”. Mertens emphasizes the importance of the absence of visible joints and white lines between the various slabs of techno-surface: “The new technology and the Deep Nocturne color by DuPont™ Corian® have enabled us to achieve our goal, namely to create a contrast with the golden hues of the structure, a color that represents the common thread of this project throughout the building”. Through the use of the DuPont™ Corian® techno-surface and the Nocturne Deep color, the TBI studio has managed to recreate in the hotel bar the perfect fusion of ancient and modern, elegance and informality.
