The rule UNI11674 “Furniture - Italian furniture sourcing requirements“ indicate how a chair, a table or a wardrobe are the fruit of skills, of attention to quality, comfort and safety, skills that are typical of the best Italian firms.
To ensure that the content of this rule is perceived by anyone, in the world, in understanding, intuitive and clear way, we would have to create a brand.
Catas and Cosmob, the two most important Italian laboratories of analysis, tests and certifications for wood furniture, have decided to propose a true “brand“, a label that, affixed to a piece of furniture, certifies conclusively the Italian origin. The project was presented at Industries of this sector in Pordenone, during the last edition of Sicam. The table was also attended by Federlegno Arredo, the Federation of “confindustria” associations of wood-furniture chain and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Furniture Cluster, innovation pole for the “Home system“.
There were many questions after the talks of Andrea Giavon e Lorena Riul, respectively Director and Responsible for certification of Catas, of Alessio Gnaccarini and Francesco Balducci, Director & CTO of Cosmob, of Marco Fossi, Responsible for standardisation of Federlegno Arredo, and Carlo Piemonte, Friuli Venezia Giulia Furniture Cluster Manager. The interest shown by industries having a tool able to witness both the performance characteristics of a product (quality, functionality, safety, reliability, sustainability) both “indirect values“ underpinning the Made in Italy and which form an integral part of our culture.
A simple path of certification
“Creating a system of certification of Italian origin for serious, structured, credible and reliable furnishing is a practical way to flank virtuous industries, contributing to give value to their products in the national market and internationally, “ - commented Alessio Gnaccarini - through a simple, efficient system, result of the great responsibility that the two labs have developed over decades of commitment“.
A technical know-how undoubtedly valuable to “test“ incontrovertibly the values of “made in Italy“ by identifying products and production processes, verifying in lab compliance with the requirements of technical reference rules as well checking the “Italian origin“ of materials and semi-finished products as required by Uni 11674.
“We wanted to design a simple solution,“ added Giavon. “Catas and Cosmob have established a joint secretariat to manage the “mark of Italian origin” and a certification path of great simplicity, it can be faced without any difficulties not only by large Italian furniture realities, but also by small and medium-sized industries looking for new levers for competing in the world “.
