Salone del Mobile.Milano obtains ISO 20121 certification for its sustainable event management system. The announcement of this important milestone comes at the same time as the participation in Sustainable Italy, a project promoted by the Consulate General of Italy in New York, in collaboration with ICE and under the coordination of the Embassy in Washington, within the Nest Climate Campus, partner of Climate Week NYC, the most important annual event on the subject of combating climate change and environmental sustainability.
Commitment to sustainable change
With the ISO 20121 certification for its event sustainability management system, Salone del Mobile.Milano reaffirms its commitment to sustainable change, guiding its business model along a path of responsible and inclusive development, which can be a reference and inspiration for the entire sector. The verification activity was carried out by the multinational certification body RINA.
The certification recognises and rewards the Show's ethical and sustainable path and steers the event's management system towards continuous improvement.
Maria Porro, President of Salone del Mobile.Milano commented: "I consider this certification as a new starting point: by continuing to question our own environmental impact and cultivating sustainable behaviour, also through the involvement and support of our stakeholders, we want to become a reference point and source of inspiration for the entire sector and pursue a business model that is as ethical as possible, capable of responding intelligently and consistently to the increasingly complex challenges that the future holds in store for us".
The Salone at Sustainable Italy
In order to reaffirm its commitment along a path of inclusive, responsible and sustainable development, the Salone del Mobile.Milano is among the protagonists of Sustainable Italy, a review of the best case histories of Italian companies committed to the path towards a real ecological and climate transition.
For the occasion, the Salone will illustrate "Design with Nature", the installation developed together with architect Mario Cucinella, as part of the 60th anniversary edition of the Show in 2022: the project reasoned on the themes of circular economy and reuse, starting from the idea that the city is the possible "reserve" of the future, where to find most of the raw materials useful for construction. The Salone intends to bring its reflections on ethics, circularity, domestic space, participatory architecture, urban regeneration, recycling and upcycling to the attention of an international parterre of protagonists of the cultural debate.
