- Flexible polyurethane foam
The first hydrophobic flexible polyurethane foam Pelma, a leading company in the production of flexible polyurethane foam, created Dryflex®, the first hydrophobic flexible polyurethane foam.
Dryflex® is capable of maintaining permanently the characteristics of hydrophobicity without losing the characteristics of comfort, elasticity and breathability typical of flexible polyurethane foam. Impermeability to water and to aqueous solutions prevents the absorption of liquid within its cellular structure, thereby avoiding the unpleasant sensation of wet. Resistant to UV rays, it allows also a longer maintenance over time of the physical-mechanical characteristics of Dryflex®. In addition to that, the special Ultrafresh treatment to which Dryflex® is subjected can counter the proliferation of bacteria, one of the primary causes of asthma and allergic diseases, and mildew, the main cause of bad smell and degradation, succeeding, in this way, to preserve over time the conditions of hygiene and freshness of polyurethane.
The analysis and certification of the new polyurethane have been entrusted to the Department of Industrial Chemistry “Toso Montanari“ Alma Mater Studiorum, University of Bologna. The characteristics of Dryflex® make it a material that is particularly strategic, not only in outdoor furnishing, but also in the marine industry, in health care, in padded swimsuits and in every type of application where the absorption of water within polyurethane should be limited.
